THE PREVALENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF DENTAL CARIES AMONG SAUDI AND NONSAUDI ADULTS RESIDING IN JEDDAH CITY

Abstract : This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and pattern of distribution of dental caries among Saudi and Non Saudi adults residing in Jeddah. Adults group of250 Saudi and 250 Non Saudi, ages 18 and above were examined in the dental clinic of King Abdulaziz University. Results showed that the mean DMFT for Saudi 10.4 and Son Saudi 11.2. DMFS for Saudi was 25.3 and Non Saudi 28.9. As age increased., the DMFT and DMFS increased. On [he other hand., as education increased., the DMFT and DMFS decreased. The lower first molar was the most commonly missing tooth due to caries while the lower first premolar was the least. The Saudi had a higher number of filled teeth than the Non Saudi. Incidence of occlusal caries was higher than the smooth lesion. The need for effective preventive measures was stressed
