Occlusal surfaces of 35 molar teeth were ground flat. Samples of Z100/SBMP +, compoglass, dyract, Tetric/syntac and Vitremer were bonded to the dentin pretreated according to the manufacturer instructions of each material. Mean shear bond strength recorded were 26.1 + 3.2, 10.4 + 1.57, 9.25 + 1.26, 7.6 + 1 and 4.7 + 0.49 MPa respectively. S.E.M. studies revealed a combination of cohesive/adhesive bond failure for all tested materials except Vitremer which showed adhesive failure only. *Associate Professor Cairo University Egypt. ** Oberarzt Ludwig Maximilian University Munich Germany. *** Professor and head of conservative dept.
